November 26 - December 2

Monday - Ran approximately 3 miles

We were dorks and forgot to set alarms.  I woke up to it being light and the first thought in my mind was, "How late did we sleep in?"  Thankfully it was only 7:18. I couldn't run until noon when Rob took lunch.  It was sunny out and really beautiful.  I really wanted to run through the woods.  So I ran to Woodmansee Park and ran on the trails.  Good run except I feel like I took too much time off.  Dragged at times and getting up the Idylwood hill was hard.  I walked about one minute just to catch my breath.

Tuesday - Ran 2 miles

Again had a hard time getting up and not out the door until close to 6:45 AM.  Not enough time to do a long run.  But did 2 miles at a fast pace.  It felt great to run fast and I felt better than yesterday.  I ran the 2 mile square to Browning.  No rain--just a little cooler in the mornings.  Supposed to rain later in the week.

Wednesday - Swam 14 minutes, Bike 29 minutes

Again got a late start.  Did not leave the house until 6 AM.  I managed to get the workout in--just later coming home than I would have liked.  Swimming went fine.  I did about eight laps.  I have the endurance now--just want to work on speed.  I don't swim very fast, but I am getting there.  I did freestyle the whole time with hardly any breaks in between laps.  I hate the stationary bike except I seem to like it more in Group Ride class.  I would much rather bike outside.  James and Sheryl are coming over on Sunday after church and he is going to give me a crash course on fixing tires and patching holes.  I need to learn it!  I also have to run with Hailey at least twice this week and that is trickier to schedule.  I wish Derek could run with us, but he'd never be able to keep up.  I could easily push Kara in her push cart thing.  But poor Derek would be left behind.

Thursday - Group Power & Swam 29 minutes

It's a few days later and trying to remember last week.  We had youth group Wednesday night and it's hard to get up Thursday morning when there's youth group the night before.  But I did it and made it to Group Power.  I felt so zombie like the first few tracks, but finally felt like I was waking up.  Swimming afterwards went really good.  I mostly did freestyle but did a few laps of breaststroke and backstroke with the kickboard.

Friday - Group Ride & Swam 19 minutes

It was great to get to Group Ride.  Hailey's PE teacher is taking over this class so I said I would start coming once or twice a week.  It is kind of nice when you know the instructor.  I am liking this class more as I am getting used to it.  Swimming went really good again.  I did freestyle almost the whole time.

Saturday - Ran 5 miles

Such a good run!  Perfect weather!  Great temperature and no rain.  I rain through the Sumpter neighorbood.  So nice to do it first thing in the morning.  It wouldn't have happened otherwise.  We had such a busy day!  I didn't get around to running with Hailey unfortunately.

Sunday - Rest

I had hoped to run with Hailey but it was pouring rain.  I can handle it running it but didn't want to subject her to it.  It has been clear in the mornings and starts raining in the afternoons.

November 19 - 25

This week was kind of a bust so I am going to repeat this week's workout next week.  Sunday night we had a nasty windstorm that carried over into Monday.  I was not going to attempt running outside...lots of pouring rain and strong winds.  Thought we would lose power, but only lost Internet and cable.  Plus I had two extra kids here on Monday and it was Derek's birthday--a lot going on.  Tuesday I tried to bike over Rob's lunch and got a flat about 2 miles into it.  He had to come rescue me in the van.  Wednesday I managed to get in the pool and swim 25 minutes. I also ran a mile and a half with Hailey.  Thursday & Friday were busy with Thanksgiving and Black Friday shopping.  Today I cleaned literally all day and that was the main thing I wanted to accomplish.   I also ran a mile and a half with Hailey.  Tomorrow I am not planning on exercising except another run with Hailey, but I will start again on Monday.  Because we lost Internet for 2 days, I didn't get on My Fitness Pal.  Once I miss two days it's like I fall off the wagon again.  Will start that again on Monday.

November 12 - 18

Monday:  Ran 4.5 miles

So nice Hailey did not have school so I could run at 7 AM.  Looking forward to Christmas Break (unless if Rob needs the extra office time and starts work at 7).  I have not run this far since the marathon or if I had only a handful of time.  When I ran into the headwind, it was hard.  I didn't stop at all.  The cool dry weather was pretty comfortable.  I know I worked myself more than a usual run because I am sore today.  I ran the Sumpter Park route I haven't done since the summer.  The fact I could get up the hills no problem and didn't struggle makes me think my endurance is in a good place.  I really think the swimming has helped more than I thought it would.

I think each week is going to be a little different in terms of what workouts I do when.  I am trying to plan it on Sunday what I want the week to look like.  For instance Rob has Bible Study every other Wednesday morning early so going to the gym is not an option.  But going to the gym in the evening doesn't work either because we have church stuff.  So those days I have to run on his lunch or take it off.  Or try and go to the gym over his lunch, but that's pushing it time wise.  This Saturday I am not planning on trying to make it to the gym because we have something in the morning and in the evening.  With running it was pretty easy.  I did 90% of my running outside so I just fit in and I could do it anywhere.  Now with needing a pool and a bike (indoor bike if it's raining) and Group Power once a week--I have to be way more scheduled and plan ahead.  That's OK.  I can work with that.  Most of my early mornings with the exception of Rob's Wednesdays are free.  It's just fighting the motivation to go back to sleep.

Tuesday - Bike 46 minutes

It was not raining (for once!) so I asked Rob if he wouldn't mind taking a late lunch.  I rode my bike through the Sumpter neighborhood over to the Wes Bennet neighborhood, up Commerical (still a little freaked out biking on Commercial)  to Browning and back home.  I didn't realize Browning is all uphill coming from Commercial.  I have run it so many times--hills are so different on a bike.  Nice to get my bike out--it's been awhile.  Would much prefer being outside.

Wednesday - Swam 16 minutes, Ran 13 minutes

I was going to go to early morning Group Ride, but because I biked yesterday--I opted to skip it.  Instead I went to the gym at 6 and swam 10 laps freestyle (4 with the pull buoy and 6 without) and then ran on the treadmill.  Good workout.  The pool was full by the time I was done so I am glad I got there when I did or I would have had to wait for a lane.

Hailey wants do the Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving Day.  She REALLY wants to.  I don't know what to do.  On one hand she did the Awesome 3000 last year and the year before which is a little over a mile.  She wasn't exhausted afterwards--really upbeat.  She had fun doing it.  She hardly complained or cried or anything.  Her time was not very fast, but she is not very competitive--never has been.  She didn't care that she was in the middle of the pack.  On the other hand it's 3.1 miles and that's a lot.  She has hardly trained.  I am leaning towards letting her try it and doing it with her.  It would be fun for both of us.  Whether it is a good experience or terrible experience, it would be a learning experience.  I wish I knew someone to ask advice for on this but not many of my friends are runners.  Those that are don't have kids Hailey's age.  Or they are super competitive people and their kids are in year round sports and compete all the time--which is so not our family.

Thursday - Group Power 60 minutes & Swam 22 minutes

Group Power went fine.  Jen was sick so Sarah subbed for her.  She did a lot of tracks from 4 years ago so I remembered them.  The workout was fine.  A lot of use of the bar--no push ups or some of the newer tracks.  Which was fine.  Legs were probably the hardest for me today which is unusual.  Was happy when the lunges were over.

Swimming went fine.  I did around eleven laps.  I did two freestyle with the pull buoy, two without, and the breast stroke with the kickboard, and then repeat.  An old guy asked me if I wanted to play water volleyball with the senior instead of swim laps.  A little tempting.

I decided it is way too soon for Hailey to do 5K next week.  If she really wants to do one, we'll look into the one on December 15th or find one in January.  She needs to get a few runs in before she tackles that.

Friday - Group Ride (50 minutes) and Swim 13 minutes

Rob had to paint Derek's room all day so I knew the only time I could go to the gym was in the early morning.  I made it early Group Ride.  I enjoyed the class more this time--kind of figuring it out better.

I went downstairs to get in the pool but was irritated my goggles fell out of my bag.  I thought I had seen them laying on the floor by the fireplace--that's where they were.  I practiced breaststroke almost the whole time which I probably should have done earlier in the week.  I feel like I have improved, but I want to work with someone to make sure I am doing it right.  Maybe during Christmas Break or after the holidays.  I tried to do a few laps of freestyle, but it's really hard without goggles.  Oh well--I didn't feel like it was a total loss.

Saturday - REST!

Sunday - Ran 2 miles hills

Did a 2 mile hill run and it was hard!  Felt out of breath most of the time.  I ran in the neighborhood behind Roths.  Then I came back and ran a mile with Hailey which was MUCH more enjoyable.  She ran almost the whole way.  Her running has improved SIGNIFICANTLY in a year.  I can't believe how much stamina she has.  Her confidence is so much better.  We're going to try a 5K in December.

November 5 - 11

Monday - Ran 2 miles

Kara is worse today.  :(  And it's her birthday.  Even more lethargic and now feels feverish.  Poor girl.  The nice thing is we don't have a lot planned the next two weeks.  So if we have to spend it nursing sick ones or being sick ourselves we can.  No visits from family or any trips for awhile.  No major church events we have to be at.  I guess it's a good time to be stuck at home.  I was productive this morning and did my devotions in the morning and then ran 2 miles.  I did the regular 2 mile square route.  Taking a week off did not set me back.  I felt pretty strong.

Tuesday - Ran 3 miles

Good run today.  I felt a little tight and fatigued starting out.  Once I got into a rhythm I felt good.  Weather was nice and warm and no rain.  Got out the door by 6:30 AM.  I was really productive again which is great.  I have felt so little anxiety and stress since I came from San Diego.  Life just feels more doable right now.  I have continue to be disciplined about getting up in the mornings.  I fight it every single morning.

Wednesday - Swam 20 minutes (12 laps)

I love swimming!!  My brother-in-law was saying as soon as your learn the form, you can just get into a rhythm and swim--same as running.  I never believed I would just be able to do laps like this even a month ago.  I always felt the pool light headed, exhausted, and frustrated.  I did five laps with the pull buoy and seven without.  I took very few breaks in between laps and no breaks in between lengths.  Usually just 5-10 seconds.  It was amazing and I loved it!  Was happy to get out the door by 5:50 AM.  Was home in time to help with the kids and breakfast and still have time to spare.

Even with all the bad eating at the conference, my weight is the same--maybe a half pound more.  But nothing major.  I have eaten really well the last three days.  For it is not as much about what you eat (though I do try to eat healthy and get enough fruits and veggies) but the portion sizes.  I don't need a double portion at every single meal.  I actually have decreased the amount I am eating at breakfast and having a very small snack around 10 AM.

Thursday - Group Power (55 minutes) & Group Ride (45 minutes)

I have not been to Group Power for six weeks because I have been concentrating on swimming.  The alarm went off.  I contemplated not going like I always do.  I got up about 10 minutes later.  I got into the gym about a minute early, but the warm up had already started.  I hate setting up while everyone has started.  But four or five people came in after me so that big of a deal.  Some things have changed with Power--they are using a bench on an incline a lot.  I didn't figure out they were using different risers until halfway through the workout.  I really like some of the new tracks.  I think they debuted last week.  With most of the tracks there is way more variety and you don't have the bar the whole time.  Triceps was the hardest as well as the chest track.  Everything else was pretty good.  I didn't change my weight a whole lot from a couple weeks ago.

Then I went to Group Ride to get my long bike ride in for the week.  Biking outside just may not happen for awhile.  Too dark in the mornings.  Too dark in the evenings.  Too rainy in the afternoons.  Hailey's PE teacher was leading it this morning.  It was pretty tough.  I don't push myself enough in that class because I am little afraid and unfamiliar.  But once I get into the groove of it, I am sure I will enjoy it more.

Friday - Swam 16 minutes & Ran 12 minutes

Trying to figure out what I did because it's now Tuesday as I am writing this.  I went to the gym in the early morning mostly so I could have the whole day to work on things.  Normally I go after I drop off Hailey at school and I'm not back until close to 10.  And the morning is half over.  I liked going in the early morning.  Swimming went fine.  Running was harder.  Not sure if it was because I am not used the treadmill or I pushed myself hard in swimming.  I think some of it is because 12 minutes is such a short distance.  I don't start getting into the groove until 2 miles.  I think the main reason is I just hate the treadmill.

Saturday - Swam with the kids

Used my gym time instead to play with the kids in the pool.  I couldn't go to the gym and work out and then come back home and get the kids.  We didn't have an overly busy day, but we had enough to keep us busy. We also slept in and Rob had to work a couple of hours.

Sunday - Rest

I said I would go for a bike ride is the weather was dry.  It was so nasty rainy and cold all day and a tad bit depressing.  My anxiety was not great as well.  Oh well--the week is over.

Last week

I decided to take all last week off for better or for worse.  It was a very busy week with Halloween and other things going on.  Plus I left for San Diego on Thursday and did not get home until Saturday night.  I didn't pack any running clothes along.  There was no exercise room anyway.  I would not feel safe running around my motel--didn't seem like the safest neighborhood.  I didn't have a lot of time anyway because I met these super cool friends from Minnesota that I miss them already!!  I hung out with them a lot.  I really hope the Lord brings us together again.  I never thought I'd make such good friends so quickly at a conference.

I ate terrible while I was away and I am sure I gained a few pounds.  Today Kara woke up with a stomach bug.  I think Derek had it on Tuesday--similar symptoms.  So the plan for this week is to jump back into tri training, but that could get postponed if I get sick.  There really is no way to plan for that at this point.
