January 27 - February 2

Monday - Rest

I couldn't exercise because Rob is in Florida.  I watched the toddler I usually watch in the mornings all day and Hailey's teacher's daughter part of the day.  It was a long day, but good one.  I LOVE seeing my kids love on the baby and play with the toddler.  It's almost easier than having older kids here.

Tuesday - Ran 4 miles

Christina had Kara for two hours.  I didn't want to run.  It's so hard starting up after a break.  I did get out there and thankfully it wasn't raining very hard yet.  It wasn't the greatest run--I felt tired at points and not at my best.  I completed it.

Wednesday - Swam 1/2 hour

Cheryl came over around 8:30 so I could swim at the gym.  I timed myself swimming 1/4 mile so I what time to register with for the triathlon.  I shaved two minutes off my time and was at about 13 minutes.  I'm swimming faster.  :)  Afterwards I did 200 pull 100 kick and then 100 drills.  Don't mind swimming at night sometimes though I miss the morning swimming crew.

Thursday - Group Ride

I am an evening exerciser this week just due to Rob being gone.  He's back, but I was not going to do an early morning since he just got home late Wednesday night (and I swam at 9 at night).  Rob took the kids out at 5 and I went to Ride.  The instructor teaching was the guy who used to teach 5 PM Power and I never really cared for him.  I loved how he taught Ride--I think it's more of his thing.  It was a great workout.  Sometimes Ride get boring and tedious, but he kept it exciting and interesting.  I felt like I got such a great workout.

Friday - Ran 5 miles

I ran around 4:40 after Abby got picked up.  Such a good run.  Felt amazing.  It was sprinkling and rainy a little bit at times.  My body temp was all off again when I got home and I had to shower right away since we had an event at the kid's school.  My feet were all numb.  It was a great run though.

Saturday - Brick:  25 minutes swim, 32 minutes stationary bike

The two things I dislike about brick workouts are the amount of stuff you need to take to the gym (I had to take two bags) and how long they take.  I have to allow for two hours.  I really need to do them Saturday mornings but that is my one and only day to sleep in.  I can't do them on Friday mid morning or afternoon like I did last year since I work now during that time. Swimming went really good again.  Bike was OK.  I like Group Ride more now which is good--it took me awhile to get into that class. Biking solo on the other bikes is not as fun.

Sunday - Only ran with Hailey for her training.  I think we did about 8 minutes?

January 20 - 26

Monday - Rest

Great day off!!  Perfect sunny weather.  Kids rode bikes in the parking lot.  Started training Hailey for Shamrock.  She only had to run for four minutes so we did it in the parking lot.  She ran the whole four minutes straight except for walking 15 seconds.  I am having her keep a running journal because I think it really helps.  She wrote (her words exactly):  "I felt vary tird after the exersise."  She did well though.  :)

Tuesday - Ran 3 miles

Beautiful sunrise starting to pop up after the end of the run.  Did my normal 3 mile route.  Nothing special.  It went fine.

Wednesday - Swam 1 hour

I felt sluggish the whole swim and my legs felt tight.  I really think I need to some at home yoga or try to go to Centergy or something.  I think it is just an "off" day because I have felt tired the whole day.  My motivation is low.  I am glad I showed up anyway and got a good workout in.  I don't give My Fitness Pal gives you enough calories.  I have felt hungry the last three days.  Not hungry like I need to snack.  Hungry like I feel like I am getting enough food to eat.  I actually felt faint today.  I am still going to use My Fitness Pal, but I am not sticking to the calories I have it set on...I am going slightly above.  I am eating healthy.  My weight is the same as last week but I was wearing flip flops and was wet.  I am going to keep eating the way I am eating and exercising the way I'm exercising.  If I lose weight, I lose weight.  If I don't, I don't.  I guess the upside is I am not going to gain a bunch of weight.

Thursday - Rest

Ugh.  I told myself this winter (especially end of January/early February) I would not push the early mornings if I felt a cold coming on.  I did this last year and I think it took much longer to get over it.  I felt a sore throat coming on yesterday and it got worse last night.  I slept OK, but I it hurt in the morning.  It's not strep--just a cold.  As hard as it was, I didn't go the gym this morning and I'll probably take tomorrow off as well.  I hate being a baby about it, but I just hate colds that linger.  I seem to always catch something end of January/early February.  Plus today the baby I watch is not having a great day and I need that extra dose of strength.  Swimming was hard yesterday.  I didn't feel 100%.  So I am not going to push it.  I'll take it day by day.

Rest of the Week = Rest

I'm not that sick.  I've been able to resume all normal activities.  I have just had a dry cough, sore throat, and runny nose.  I was more tired at the beginning of the week.  I think with all the extra sleep I've been getting and keeping my activity level, this cold has stayed pretty mild.  Had I not done this, I am not sure I would be getting over it this quickly. There's a lot of nasty stuff going around right now.  Oregon has one of the highest amount of flu cases right now.  There's been a ton of people out sick.  I am glad we've not gotten hit as bad as previous years.   I plan on starting up again Tuesday.  I can't run tomorrow because Rob is gone again, but Christina is taking Kara all morning on Tuesday--so I can squeeze a run in mid morning.

January 13 - 19

Monday & Tuesday - Rest

I had not planned on taking two days off in a row.  I was feeling quite motivated and ready to continue the exercise.  I was feeling good Sunday night after the long run.  When Rob was gone I worked very very hard taking care of all the kids (the day care kids & my own kids).  The house stayed amazingly clean.  I stayed on top of things.  You just get in that mode--you go on autopilot.  I was tired but I was too busy to feel tired so I kept on going.  I also didn't sleep well some of the nights he was gone so I was going off less sleep as well.  Ever since yesterday morning I have been very off emotionally and mentally and I'm fatigued.  The timing is awful as it is an unusually very busy week for me.  I have EVERYTHING this week.  Normally it all doesn't fall in the same week, but this week it does.  I am hoping to get back into it tomorrow.  I don't have as much today so hopefully I can get caught up on some things and try to get to bed early.  I feel like if someone asks me to do something else, I am going to explode...and I have to control that because my fuse is short right now.  The good part in all this is I have been eating amazingly well and eating very healthy--and I really think that has made a small difference in my energy level and moods.  I am very motivated to stick to it.  I have had very little temptation to eat a lot of junk.

Wednesday - Swam 65 minutes

I feel like I am back to a schedule.  Today was wonderful to be in the pool.  A tough workout, but good nonetheless.  The pool was packed and I am told it will get even more that way as triathlon season training officially starts.  I had to share a lane with Erica which was totally fine.  For some reason there weren't hardly any kickboards.  There was a new person who is on a one week membership.  She swims, but her pace is slower than mine.  She went on the lane on the end with another more leisurely swimmer.  She was really nice, but she kept asking to borrow my pull buoy and kickboard.  I am totally OK with lending things out.  But our workout went from pull to kick constantly.  A few times I didn't have the equipment I needed because she was using it.  I think she felt bad and stopped using it.  There should have been enough kickboards foe everyone--not sure why the club had like only three.  But you're really supposed to bring all your own stuff.  I guess with it being her first time she didn't know that.  The Kroc Center has a whole bin of pull buoys, fins etc.  It felt great to be in the pool with others rather than working out by myself.

Thursday - Group Power - 55 minutes Run - 32 minutes

Power was good.  I pushed myself on the tracks I struggle with.  I felt good throughout the whole thing.  It's getting easier and might need to increase weight soon to challenge myself more.  I decided to try running afterwards on the treadmill like I used to.  It was very difficult.  I had to keep my pace slower than normal--I got too winded.  Plus I'm not used to being so hot and sweating profusely--I have not run indoors in quite awhile.  I had to stop and drink water.  I figured if I left the gym at 6:45 I'd be home in time when Abby gets dropped off.  I felt bad because as I pulled up DJ was ringing the doorbell and Rob was barely awake.  He was there at like 6:58.  I love being able to get a run in on top of Power.  Thursday mornings are quiet around here--it's easier to sneak a shower in later because Abby pretty much naps from 8 AM until 10:30 and sometimes as late as 11.  Kara plays, watches 1 hour of TV or just hangs out with me whatever I am doing.  It is playing it a little close because I would have to cut my run down to 2 miles or 2.5 miles and that's just not enough.  I usually don't run less than 3 miles anymore.  I may try again next week and leave Power a couple minutes early.

Friday - Group Ride - 50 minutes

Yay--got out early and made it to Ride.  Still don't see why people are so passionate and love this class.  I don't hate it, but I don't see what the hype is.  I know I would not work out as hard by myself on the bike if I didn't go.  I also ran into Angie in the locker room who is an elite triathlete--like really really good.  She told me she runs three times a week, swims twice, and bikes once and I also see her at Power.  So I feel like I am doing a good workout regimen for triathlons.  I still wish I could squeeze Centergy in, but not sure how that would even work at this point.

Saturday - Brick Workout - Swim 35 minutes, Stationary Bike 32 minutes

I had planned on going to the gym in the mid afternoon, but Rob had to do an emergency visit.  I had a dinner meeting at 5 and got done around 6:30.  Made it to the gym shortly thereafter.  For swimming I did our normal warm-up, 3 x 100's fast, 2 x 50 drill, and flip turn practice.  Then I did the stationary bike hills track for 32 minutes (probably would have done 45 but they were closing).  I need to do brick workouts because I have to practice transition.  I struggled with transitions in my first tri.  I felt very frazzled.  I need to figure out a good system.  It's been a good week of workouts even missing Tuesday.  I hope to run tomorrow afternoon.

Sunday - Ran 8 miles

Makes such a difference running in dry weather versus rain.  SO much easier this week.  And not too cold either.  I ran my normal 8 mile route, but instead of running up Kuebler (so sick of running on Kuebler) I cut through the Welcome Way neighborhood.  I felt really good through most of the run.  I ate a pack of gu about halfway through and carried water and that helped.

New Year!! January 6 - 12

I skipped last week.  I ran once and it was a slow "I-really-just-don't-feel-like-doing-this-right-now" type of run.  New Years threw off my schedule.  I can stay up past midnight but it takes me a couple days to get back on schedule.  Plus I did massive cleaning all over the house and that was more of a priority.

Monday - Ran 3 miles

Originally Rob was going to fly out early this morning so I planned on doing a video.  But due to all the crazy weather in the Midwest, he is not flying out until tomorrow and today's classes got cancelled.  Which means he won't be home until Saturday late afternoon.  He had to work and volunteer Saturday morning anyway so it really doesn't affect us at all.  Since he was home this morning I took advantage of that and ran my regular three mile route.  I felt better than last week.  I wanted to get out a little earlier, but was thankful I got out at all.  I didn't fall asleep until after 11 PM and then I had a nightmare (still not sure if it's a nightmare soon after you fall asleep) and it was a really scary one.  In it I was trying to wake up and run and my eyes wouldn't open and my legs couldn't move.  I often have this when I drink caffeine in the evening, but I didn't have any except for a cup of coffee in the morning.  Thankfully I fell back asleep and slept to the alarm.

Tuesday -  Ran 5 miles

Rob got off OK this morning, but he barely got any sleep--like only 2-3 hours at the most.  I slept until 7 AM.  I had no child care kids coming this morning and couldn't run outside anyway so didn't see the point in getting up super early.  I ran around 10 AM while the kids were at school and Christina had Kara all morning.  It is super nice to run during this time.  I love it!  It was a really good run too. Just a sprinkling--hardly any rain.  The temp has been steady in the high 40's/low 50's so it's perfect.  Not quite running in shorts, but I was getting too warm in a jacket.

Wednesday - Group Power & Stationary Bike (25 minutes)

Margie offered to take the kids this afternoon.  I went to 5 PM Group Power and the place was completely packed.  People were trying to squeeze into the wings because every single row was filled.  I almost tripped over these college students when I was trying to get my equipment.  SO many people.  If I would have gotten there two minutes later, I would not have been able to find a spot at all.  The 5 PM teacher is tough!  It's like Group Power the Bootcamp edition.  It was hard and I can already feel it in my shoulders, quads, biceps etc.  It really was I needed today.  I missed Power a lot the last two weeks so had a renewed energy to get back into it.  I would love to be able to go to her class once in awhile, but most weeks I can only go Fridays--and a lot of times we have stuff on Fridays.  I also rode the bike afterwards which was just a normal interval workout.  I have eaten SO good the last three days.  Need to stick with this.  I feel better when I'm not eating a lot of junk.

Thursday - Yoga -25 minutes

I did a yoga video on You Tube.  It was a simple one a girl made in her backyard.  She did know her yoga because it was pretty good and was all the poses I used to do when I went to Centergy.  The stretches felt amazing.  My body was so tight after running & Power.  I need to somehow squeeze it in each week even if it just 25 - 30 minutes.  Again when I woke up Friday my body was not tight at all.

Friday - Rest

I couldn't really exercise today.  Full day of kids.  Rob still away in St. Louis.

Saturday - Swimming 45 minutes

So great to be in the pool again!  Missed it.  I did our normal warm we usually do on Wednesday mornings 300 Free, 200 Pull, 100 Kick.  Then I did 4 x 50's fast.  Then I did 4 x 50's drills (working on swimming with my eyes shut in preps for open water and flip turns which I still can't really do but not going to lose sleep over it), 1 x 50 back, 1 x 100 pull.  It was a great workout.  The guy in the lane next to me gave me some anti-fog for my goggles and it was amazing.  I need to pick some up.  It was crystal clear--except I could see all the gunk on the bottom of the pool which was a little gross.

Sunday - Ran 7 miles

It was a really good week of exercise even with Rob away.  I managed to get some very good workouts in!  I ran 7 miles today through the Welcome Way neighborhood to the Mildred neighborhood by Wes Bennet Park and back on Kuebler.  It rained almost the entire time.  It was either sprinkling and at some points pouring.  It was OK.  I ran pretty well through it and did fine on the hills.  There were quite a few uphills.  I was just cold when I got back and it took a long time for my body temperature to get back to normal.  I'm glad I got out there and did it.
