September 3 - 9

Monday - Biked for one hour (plus lots of cleaning & playing with kids in the pool)

What a great Labor Day!  The last couple years we've had barbeques/pool parties at friend's houses.  This year a lot of our friends had other plans or were out of town...or wanted to get home projects done.  We kind of decided to keep it as a family day and take our kids to the Dallas Aquatic Center.  Hailey has been asking to do this all summer wanting to go to the Kroc Center.  We found Dallas was almost half the price and still had a water slide and lazy river.  We had so much fun with our kids.  It kind of reinforced we need to guard our family too.  We love our friends and we're pretty social--we have a lot of different friends of various ages.  But we need times when it is just "us" and maybe even more so now that our kids are a little older.  That just hit my mind today while we were out.

I did a bunch of cleaning this morning and later this afternoon.  I did work up a sweat especially going up and down the stairs.

I ended the day and the summer for that matter with a bike ride at sunset.  It was awesome!  I love biking!!  I biked in the Battlecreek neighborhood and this bratty little kid tried me to cut me off on his stupid scooter.  I kind of wish he would have hit me so he would have dealt with the consequences.  Riding through the Wes Bennet neighborhood was better and the Sumpter neighborhood as well.  So nice to be out.  There were so many people biking, walking dogs, playing sports in their yard.  I can't believe summer is officially over.  I feel like it went so much faster this year compared to other summers.  We did just about everything we set out to do.  I did want to take the kids on another hike.  It still stays warm here in September so I might do that the weekend Rob is in Washington.  Or maybe even in October when the colors are changing.

Bring on the fall!  School starts tomorrow first thing.

Tuesday - Ran 2 miles

I got out the door by 6:45 AM.  I meant to get out there earlier, but I am such a dork with setting my alarm.  I don't think I put the switch all the way to "On" when I went to bed.  I'm so not used to setting my own alarm--was always dependent on Rob.  Now he wakes up to his ipad alarm which I woke up to this morning.  I managed to get a good 2 miler in and it felt nice to start my day that way.  I ran pretty strong.  I just did the Wendy Kroger to Idylwood route.

Wednesday - Swam 15 minutes, Biked 22 minutes

I originally was going to go to Group Ride.  Rob didn't get home until 10 PM and I kind of wanted to spend time with him. I didn't fall asleep until after 11. I didn't sleep great, but I still managed to get out the door by 6 AM.  I can't get in the pool until 6 anyway because the Masters Swim Class is from 5 AM - 6 AM (and there's no way I am going to that!).  Swimming is still hard and a little frustrating.  I have to remind myself when I started running I could barely run a mile.  I have made progress--it's just been slow.  I went on the stationary bike afterwards for twenty minutes plus a two minute cool down which was a little easier.

It really has been a good first week of fall.  I am amazed at my energy level and good moods.  I honestly have not felt this great in years.  Dealt with a little friend drama this week (thankfully not with any of my friends here in Oregon--much more stable friendships) and Hailey and some of the other girls are dealing with some of their own.  Funny how I have found similarities between the two and the age difference is almost thirty years.  I feel at peace surrendering it to God.

Thursday - Group Power & Ran 3.1 miles on treadmill

Group Power was harder this morning.  I felt a little "off."  Normally the legs track at the beginning is one of the easiest for me, but I struggled my way through it.  I felt better as the workout went on.  I love the instructor but she doesn't change things up very much.  Like it's been almost the exact same workout the past three times I have gone.  I guess that's not a big deal.  I am hoping to go to the 9 AM class tomorrow and I know that instructor does things a little different.  So we'll see.  I really think the gym messed up by moving the schedule around.  They were hoping people would go to Group Ride after Group Power.  But Power ends when Ride is already fifteen minutes into the workout.  No one wants to go into a class when it's 1/3 of the way over.  Plus the people who would go to Power twice a week and Centergy the other days can't do both anymore.  I kind of hope they go back to Monday & Wednesday.  I guess it doesn't affect me that much.

My run went much better.  I felt really strong the whole time and ran about a 9:40 pace.

Had Moppets this morning and took the kids to the park after lunch.  I am tired!  It is only 2 PM.  Here's hoping for a second wind because it's really not worth it to take a nap if I have to go pick up Hailey soon.

Friday - Ran 3 miles and Group Power

I dropped Hailey off at school and then parked my car at the gym.  I ran outside through the Battlecreek and Wes Bennet neighborhoods.  It was getting hot already!! I was sweating buckets.  The run felt great especially along Reed--that is probably my favorite part.  Lots of others out running.

Then I went to the 9 AM Power class which is a whole different crowd than the early morning people.  I think the early morning crowd is a lot of working people whereas the 9 AM people are a lot of stay at home moms or retirees.  Even though it was all new tracks (some I remember from 1 1/2 years ago) I kind of like the early morning instructor better.  Power hurt!  It was intense.  I am not crazy about doing it two days in a row.  I think that was part of the problem.  Every single muscle in my arms, shoulders, and chest hurt.  There were some tracks where I had to take extra breaks.  I am doing very well at push ups.  I can do almost all of them on my toes whereas I could do maybe two about a year ago.

Saturday - Swam 40 minutes

Today was my first adult swim class.  And my teacher is probably about 16 years old...maybe 18.  And it's a guy names Josh who was not fully confidence in his ability to teach two adults probably in their 30's.  I was not sure how old the other student is--she didn't speak a lot of English.  Basically I get to pick what I want to work on and then I can ask Josh about technique and ability.  It would have been nice to know this at the very beginning because I was kind of standing around for like five minutes wondering what I was supposed to be doing.  Oh well.  I did learn quite a bit though.  I learned breathing...I was doing it all wrong!!  I can't believe it.  I also learned how to swim with those foamy things between your thighs so you can work on your arms.  I saw some of the swim team members at Northwest Aquatics where Hailey takes swimming doing that.  I worked on straight legs for quite awhile.  My goal is to be able to do nine laps by Christmas so we'll see!  I really need to practice though.  So I am think I am going to try and swim 3-4 times next week.  That might mean cutting out one Group Power (I don't think I can go on Friday anyway). I do want to run at least twice a week because I don't want to lose my running.  I know I can easily increase my mileage again, but I love running and want to keep it up.  I might want do a 5k later on this fall.

Sunday - Rest Day

Busy busy Sunday!
