I have not felt this tired in a long time. I feel similar to when I had a baby in the house. Rob comes home late tomorrow. I feel like good eating habits, good exercise--it's all been thrown to the wayside. All I can concentrate on is the kids, getting enough sleep, doing the bare minimum housework, school activities--everything else is not happening right now. I've done really well mentally since he's been gone--so much better than in year's past. I hate missing exercise and I can feel it mentally, physically etc. I need to start up again next week when he's home. I hate being so tired!
This week is almost over. I need to exercise again. I am waiting until Monday.

Recovery Week #1
I am doing two weeks of recovery before I figure out what I am training for next. I bought a wet suit in hopes to do an open water triathlon. It's a little snug. I am not sure how much opportunity I will get to practice open waters and that will greatly determine if and when I can do another tri this summer. Here's my game plan for this week...
Monday - Easy 3 mile run
Tuesday - Yoga to DVD
Wednesday - Possible swim
Thursday - Group Ride and possible swim (if I don't get to swim on Wednesday)
Friday - Yoga to DVD
Saturday - Cardio exercise DVD
Sunday - Rest
Rob is tied up with study leave this week and we have our church campout so it's the perfect week to recover. No hard core workouts.
Monday - Easy Yoga - 20 Minutes & Ran approximately 3 miles
I got up at 6:20 and did beginners (very easy) yoga. My muscles are SO tight. It was very good to stretch. My whole right arm from my shoulder to my wrist feels sore at times and other times numb. I feel like I slept on my neck funny and can't bend it properly, but it's all from biking. I don't relax my shoulders enough and tense up my arms. I wish massages weren't so stinking expensive because I know it would help. I feel all the knots in my shoulder and neck.
Amy watched the younger two kids and I ran around the Woodmansee Park area. I don't know the mileage in the park, but I did about 3 miles total--maybe slightly less. I am sore and tight from the triathlon so I didn't push myself too hard. The weather was perfect for a run! It worked out great because I picked up Hailey & Amy's daughter and then went back to their house to get Derek & Kara.
Tuesday - Rest
Wednesday - Swam 25 minutes
I did one of the workouts on the swim website I found. I have been able to do 50 yards in 1 minute 5 seconds. That's probably my fastest time. There was a swim instructor swimming next to me. He gave me some tips on flip turns. He also said my stroke looked really good. Nice to get a quick lesson without having to pay for them. Long day though. Couldn't go to the gym until around 9 PM (Matt sat in the house while the kids were in bed) and so tired when I got home.
Thursday - Group Ride 50 minutes
Ride was fun! I really enjoyed it. I don't normally get to go to the gym mid morning obviously because I have the kids with me and Rob is working. Christina I swapped kids today. She had mine from 9 - 11:30 and I had hers from 11:30 - 2. Worked out perfectly. I don't know what I would do without my friends.

Sprint Tri Training Week #9 - I'm doing a tri at the end of the week!!
Monday - Ran 3 miles
I talked to Karen yesterday at church about the tri. I have a much better idea on what to expect and I feel more at ease.
It was hard to get up this morning and I felt crappy the first mile. But once I got going, I got more into the groove. I have not been sleeping as well the past few nights...not terrible...just feel restless and really vivid strange dreams. The last two nights I had caffeine and that usually does it...but last night I did not.
I also need to get back on My Fitness Pal and actually stick with it this time. Not go on and go off and go back on for a few days and then quit. The reason being is I want to lose a few pounds. I got my wetsuit in the mail. The seller said it's a medium and fits more like a small. I wear small in some sizes and mediums in others. I can get it on, but it's tight in some places. I know it will fit better if I can trim a little. Also last week one of the runners at the track workout said he lost a bunch of pounds by intensifying his workout...running at a faster pace. I struggle with when to push myself and when to just enjoy the workout and go at a regular pace. I think I want to continue to do the group exercises when I can. I know I push myself harder when I'm with other people versus being by myself.
Tuesday - Rest
Trying to taper this week.
Wednesday - Swam 25 minutes
It's a weird week around here. It's the week before Rob goes out of town to work on his doctorate. I had foster care training Monday & Tuesday night. Our whole schedule is on hold because an elderly lady in our church our family was friends with was rushed to the hospital on Monday. This afternoon she passed away. Not to mention the kids have been "really off" though they were back to normal today. Derek has not napped in months but has been napping almost everyday since he's been sick. Kara has slept so hard during her naps it takes a half hour for her to wake up. They have been staying up a little later and waking up earlier so I know they are a little sleep deprived. Plus my dad has some health concerns but thankfully we got some good news about that. I have so little motivation to do anything. It's been very frustrating. I don't know when the funeral is and if it will conflict with the triathlon. If Rob is going to do it before he leaves for St. Louis, it will probably conflict with it. That will mean trying to find babysitters etc. I think it can be worked out, and really funerals cannot be planned ahead. That's just the nature of the ministry. Right now I feel like I am still processing everything that my mind is not functioning at full capacity.
I did swim this afternoon which was a wonderful break in the day. In light of everything going on, I am doing no early morning workouts until next month when the tri is over and Rob is back home. The swim went great. I did the full 10 laps I'll do on Saturday in 14 minutes. I also did some warms ups, cool downs, and flip turn practice.
Thursday - Stationary Bike 32 minutes
I wanted to bike outside but we've had crappy weather the last two days. Rain, rain, rain. I went to the gym in the evening and rode the stationary bike and did intervals. Good workout. Kids were angels today!! Had a great day with all of them. I even asked Derek & Kara if they could play quietly with Little People and let me shut my eyes for 25 minutes. They didn't bother me, complain about being hungry, fight, or get into stuff they should! Awesome kids! Derek has been napping in the afternoons. He really hasn't slept in the afternoons in months, but it helped him the last couple days. He fights it like crazy but he NEEDS downtime. I think it was good for us to stay home all day today.
Friday - Rest
Saturday - Triathlon!!!!!
Final Time: 1:39:50
Such a great experience! Feel like I am hooked on triathlons now and want to do another one. So fun! Tough too at times. Running after you biked and swam is not like running a 5K in a race. Your body feels completely different. Biking was probably the hardest. I swam at about the same time I could go. I had dizzy spells at times and wasn't used to the buoyancy with all the people in the pool. I actually felt better halfway through the swim and felt like my speed was increasing. Overall it was a fabulous experience!

Sprint Tri Training Week #8
Monday - Track Workout: warm up (about 1 mile), 5 x 1 mile, 1 mile cool down
I was really glad I went to the track workout this morning. Beautiful morning, gorgeous sunset, and temperature was perfect. There were a lot of people there. I decided I was not going to modify the workout. I was going to do the whole thing at my pace. It meant running alone a lot, but it's a track so I wasn't really alone. There were a lot of people doing the exact same thing. I pushed myself pretty hard. I felt better and not like "I'm the slow one trying to keep one" which I think is the one of the reasons I've not gone as often. Good morning!
Tuesday - Outside biking - 50 minutes
It was hard to get up, but I made it out the door just after six. Seasonal allergies have not been great. My nose was running a lot and I had itchy eyes. I bikes the Rees Hill loop. Coming back I tried to switch to the larger sprocket and my chain fell off. I was about 2 1/2 miles from home and did not want to walk home with my bike or call Rob to come and get me. I managed to fix it myself. Putting my chain on is much easier than the kid's bikes which I did a couple weeks ago. I practiced shifting to the other sprocket last night in the parking lot so I know what I did wrong.
Wednesday - Swimming - 1 hour
Swam with the triathletes. We did a lot of 100's, 300's, and 400's. It was not a fast paced workout with short quick swims. I tend to like the longer swims better. I felt like my form was better and really focused on that during the easy swims. Derek is sick today. Kara had it on Saturday. We'll see who gets it next.
Thursday - Brick workout: Swam 600 yards total, Ran 5K on treadmill
It was one the first evenings in awhile when Rob did not have anything. I went to the gym around 7:30 PM. Today was a good day, but humbling and somewhat hard in other ways. I felt like I needed to get out. I found a website with lots of swim workouts of all various levels. I am using it for when I don't work out with the triathletes. I felt more confident in the pool and really worked on some speed swims which was great. I also spent 5-7 minutes practicing flip turns. I managed to do them without getting a bunch of water in my nose but I don't always get in the right position and a lot of time I am lopsided.
I ran really hard on the treadmill and pushed myself. I maintained about 8 1/2 - 9 minute mile the whole time. I finished around 25 minutes.
My back, shoulder, and wrist don't hurt as much this week. Getting ready for the tri next week. Hope I stay healthy. The only thing I am dealing with right now is mild seasonal allergies. The pollen count is very high in Oregon this spring.
Friday - Group Power
Went to 9:15 Power. Kind of nice it was my only workout today. I did walk with the kids around Bush Park later the day. Power was great. The day instructor explains things a lot and shared what weight you should have on the bar compared to your warm-up in weight. It was super helpful. I think there were a bunch of newbies in the class so she explained things a little bit more. Shoulders are still my absolute hardest. I feel like I have such weak shoulder muscles.
Saturday - Outside bicycling (about an hour)
I biked to Minto and took the Salem Heights route going there. I have been watching You Tube biking videos and they say to use the large sprocket for regular riding and the small for big hills. I have been on the small almost constantly and learned to switch to the large without the chain falling off. The only problem was I was going up huge hills and I needed the small. I could not switch in time and I ended up walking the bike up Salem Heights Street. It was so steep I am not sure I would have gotten up anyway. I also walked down another hill that was super steep and ended at a stop sign. I held on for dear life when I took Azaela to River. Honestly I cannot do this route again--it feels way too unsafe. I need to stick with the bike path (if you can even call it that--so narrow and not in the greatest shape) along River. Once I got to Minto, I was fine. I had a great ride. Coming home was fine too except I was pretty tired. I switched back to the small sprocket and found that works better on all the hilly roads on my side of town. Biking is still really scary for me. I really need some biking buddies. At least I am getting out and doing it.

Sprint Tri Training Week #7
Monday - Ran 3 miles
Basic 3 mile run on the regular route. Tried to keep my pace somewhat faster than normal. Beautiful sunny morning!
Tuesday - Outside Bicyling - 40 minutes
A little bit later start than I hoped. It was COLD! Hand were numb by the end of it. Should have worn gloves. Did great on the Mildred hills and Idylwood hill. Did not bike on the road with clips yet...don't feel ready yet.
Wednesday - Masters Swim Class
Made it to early swim. Trying to work on my form and still feel like I can't increase my speed without my form falling apart. I really struggle with the easy kickboard--feel like I am not going anywhere. I have the endurance and I am pushing myself as best as I can. Am thinking about booking a couple lessons to work on freestyle form and learn breaststroke. Wish lessons weren't so dang pricey.
Thursday - Rest
I decided before I went to bed NOT to go to Group Power. My whole right arm, up the shoulder and neck has been sore and hurting. It helps when Rob massages the muscles and then I can move them again. I am pretty sure it's from biking. I tend to tense my shoulders too much. I was glad I took the day off from exercising because it wasn't hurting as much the next day.
Friday - Triathlon Trial
I biked to the gym and swam 1/4 mile, got back on the bike and went a little less than 14 miles (I couldn't do the full 14 due to time constraints...but if you added what I did going to the gym and after it would equal 14), and then ran 3 miles. It was very humbling because I realized the triathlon is going to be tough. I've never done any kind of swim or bike race before. I just learned to swim this fall. I biked a lot as a kid, but I have not biked in years until last year. But I do feel ready. The running is by far the easiest. I feel like I am a slow swimmer. The biking was hard because there were lots of lights and traffic. I didn't realize there is hardly any bike lane on River Road on one side--I honestly did not feel safe. It's been so hard to find a good biking route I can measure by distance. I think I just have to bike to Minto Brown and just measure by time.
The youngest is running a low fever today. She has all the same symptoms as the little girl I watch who was out sick yesterday. If it spreads to all of us, it seems quite mild. There has been so much illness going around school that we've been pretty lucky to avoid most of it.
Saturday - Rest
Sunday - Rollerblading
I started a tradition of doing something outdoors Sunday afternoons versus laying on the couch all afternoon. I don't really need to nap and the older two don't anymore. The weather has been so fantastic. I took them to Minto Brown. They biked part of the trail while I roller bladed behind them. It was a lot of fun.
